This is Lola, our border collie x, straight from the Cochrane SPCA in Alberta. We got Lola just about three and a half years ago. Since then, she's come along with us on many adventures, from Powell River, BC, to Portland, OR, and moved with us to Vancouver.
I've been spending a lot of time with Lola lately (and, well, always...) and we've really gotten to know each other. I think she has come so far from the orphaned dog that she was when we first adopted her. She can walk on a leash, play with other dogs, run around at the beach, and even manages to lay down in the car sometimes, rather than just running around in the back seat. Having Lola as a pet has never been easy, but it has always been rewarding. I think this might be the case with a lot of rescue dogs and I am a huge advocate for adopting animals. A man who runs a kennel that Lola used to go to in Alberta told us something that I'll never forget. He said, "When people have SPCA dogs I just tell them to never give up." How many times I've said that to myself I don't even know.

this is such a sweet post, sarah! as i'm sure you can imagine, i'm also a HUGE advocate for adopting shelter animals and never supporting breeders. i think shelter animals are so much more specialy because many of them haven't had a pampered life and just want to be loved.
ReplyDeletewe're working with kona on his separation anxiety (and he's been working on destroying the door frame in the mud room while we're gone), but i love him so much and feel so lucky that we were able to adopt him!
lola is beautiful, and she's a lucky girl to have found you!
i have a 12 year old Britney Spaniel who is seriously the best friend a girl can have. just like Lola, Isabelle (my dog) is loyal and huge part of her family. I got her when I was 5, so my entire life has her in it. We're actually considering adopting a 7 year old Brit right now. Our biggest concern thought is how Isabelle will react to her! Lola is adorable! xo
ReplyDeleteThis is so sweet! I have been trying to convince my boyfriend that we should get a second dog from a local shelter, but I think we are going to wait until this summer when we finally fence in our yard. Our dog, Hunter, is a golden retriever, and is such a joy to have.
ReplyDeleteAWWWWW PUPPPIESSS! I love dogs <3 I have a little chihuahua who is quite the cuddle bug. Dogs are the best friends in the world, aren't they? Love the pictures!!! Have a great weekend :)

Lola is lovely, thanks for the comments on my blog, it must be cute doggy day. You're lucky she likes the car, Dexter tends to howl for the first 5 mins because he thinks he's going to the vets!

It always warms my heart to comes across people with adopted/rescued animals. Our cats are from rescue centers and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
ReplyDeleteLola looks an absolute sweetheart ♥
Aww, what great dog photos! We have a rescue dog too. I agree, it's not easy but it is very rewarding!
ReplyDeleteoh lola is so sweet and very lucky to have you and jeff as her loved ones. these photos with her buddies are so adorable too. we have our canaan dog, uno and our little grey tabby cat, louie. we love them soooo much. they are a part of our little family.
ReplyDeleteHow cute! I can't wait to live some where more permanent so I can have a puppy!
ReplyDeleteShe's adorable! We have a pound puppy, too, and he's such a good dog. His name is Morris Johnson, III or MoJo for short. Snow days aren't his favorite.
ReplyDeleteJosie: Aren't those feet sooo cute! Thanks for your comment. :)
ReplyDeleteDanielle: Adopted animals are the best. I just couldn't support a breeder either, even though I'm sure there are responsible ones out there. There are so many animals who need a second chance, seems crazy to bring new ones into the world! Kona is beautiful! Never give up!
Jackiek: Isabelle sounds so sweet!
AmyK: I totally want a second dog, too! I bet that Hunter is super duper cute!
Courtney: I know a lot of people either love big or little dogs, but not usually both, but I love all dogs. My favourite chihuahua is a little guy named Chachi! So cute!
Laura: Lola just can't get comfortable camping! She hates being cold and only likes to sleep in her own bed at home. It's so sad, but we take her anyway. It's creepy waking up with her just standing over you in the tent!
Grace: Sounds cute! You should share some pics!
Spirrel: I can't imagine Lola disliking the car. She has an obsession with car rides!
TheFrogBag: I completely agree! So glad you have a rescue dog, too!
Gale: I love how many pets you have! You're so lucky! Our cat died suddenly about a year and half ago. I intend to grow our animal kingdom with more adoptees when we have a bigger living space!
April: Thanks!
Aquariann: So cute! Lola loves the snow, but we don't get much of it here. :)
We want a dog SO bad, it kind of hurts a little. (And a kitty too)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see Cash run around and play with a sweet little pup.
Your Lola is so precious and I love seeing dogs with their doggie friends!
So cute.. I just rescued a puppy so this little post made me teary eyed. LOL.
ReplyDeletethanks so much for introducing us to lola! she seems like the most lovely dog and such a dear friend to you. and she is such a cutie as well!
ReplyDeleteit's true though that dogs can be or become some of our most close and loyal friends. i know mine are.
thanks for the wonderful photos as well. really loved this post all around!
