English Bay, 1920. Kits Beach, 1908. Third Beach, 1890. Vancouver's beaches a century ago. When men wore suits to the beach and everyone had really good hats. All photos from the Vancouver Archives.
i love seeing old pictures. and speaking of beaches, could you imagine going to one and swimming in (or sinking due to the weight, i'm sure) one of those full body type suits so that men wouldn't be able to spy any unmentionables? i don't know how they did it.
This is SO COOL! I need to post more OLD ASS family photos on my blog... I have loads & I think old pics are the best. & I agree w/ Danielle that it would be a pain to swim in those old suits... I like the way they do it in France. ;)
It's funny because if I was to post comparison photos from now the beaches would be downtown, touristy paradise, extremely gross meat market that is also really fun to hang out at, and epic, log-free beach in Stanley Park. They're all so different, and NONE of them really resemble these photos. Though some of those old buildings are still around! Maybe I'll go take those photos tonight and post tomorrow!
These are beautiful. You know I love beaches! It's so cool to see the old photos, and what people wore back then. And how much things can change over decades of time. I'd love to see what these places look like today compared to back then. You are awesome :) Thanks for these Sarah!
