a day in the life of carla from starry eyed charlie

Today's guest post in the Day in the Life series is by Carla from Starry Eyed Charlie. If you haven't already visited her super inspirational blog, be sure to check it out. Now let's get right to her Lola and George photoshoot day...

I wake up every day at 7 A.M. Get the kids ready for school, feed them breakfast and make lunches.

By 8 A.M. they are out the door. I give myself a few moments to meditate, then tweet, facebook, read/comment on blogs and have a cup of coffee.

At 9, I leave for the gym (this might not happen every day...hehe).

10:15 run home and quickly wash the funk off my body.

At 10:30, Brandi and Mimi arrive to start makeup and hair for the first model.

While this is going on, I work a bit online and tidy up my house.

When Brandi is ready for shooting, we drive to the photographer's studio.

During this time, my only job is to hand pieces to the photographer and model. It's a nice time to take a breather.

About ten minutes into the shoot, Jaime (model number 2) arrives ready for hair and makeup.

This happens until all of the models are shot and pictures uploaded for revision.

By 2 p.m., I run home, throw a load of laundry in the washer, pet my dog Jorj and finally eat lunch.

My kids go to different schools so from 3-4 I schelp around town and wait in carpool lines.

Usually we stop by our restaurant, Due Forni, to visit Alex, my husband.

When we get home, the kids get their snack on, and gear up for bike riding. I sit in the sun and contemplate new fonts for the website.

Little man likes to take pictures of me.

And today, I have time to write down what I am grateful for (a practice I wish I were better at doing).

When we go in, there's homework, dinner and bath time.

My kids chronicle my exhausted expression during this grueling hour:)

If go to sleep on time, I watch t.v. online, drink a glass of wine and maybe make a new piece of jewelry for Fall/Winter 2011.

At around 10, I blog for 30-45 minutes.

When Alex arrives, we talk until midnight and go.to.sleep.

Ahhhh.

And this is a day

sunday morning

This is how Sunday mornings should be...listening to the new Radiohead album, Jeff messing up the kitchen to make me an awesome breakfast (cherry and orange scones) and totally grossing me out by feeding the dog the leftover egg whites. Dreaming of living in that farm house above that's actually just a ten minute walk from my apartment here in Vancouver. Thinking about giant fluorite double terminated crystals and rose quartz and the beach. The Sadie shop will be re-opening tomorrow and Carla will be sharing a day in her life. Check it out. five friday favourites

I'm going to share a mix of things here today that I've been loving lately. I hope you'll find something to you enjoy amongst these things, too.

1. Dirty Projectors

This is not exactly a new song, but I've been listening to the Dirty Projectors a lot lately, and this is one of my favourite songs. I generally like way weirder music, but this makes me happy on the bus ride to school. 

2. Pagan Poetry

I find Diane's line extremely inspiring. I love the way she combines materials and her colour palette is soft and evokes cold climates and winter days. And don't you worry, that's faux fur she's using! I'm very inspired by Diane's beautiful blog and her story. She also studied landscape architecture (which is what I am studying right now) and became smitten with jewelry design along the way. I'm sure you will love her work.

3. Heart Shaped Box

I've been thinking about this video a lot lately. Perhaps because I've been seeing a lot of Valentine's Day related stuff everywhere. If you haven't watched this video for a while, it's worth taking another look at it. It was intended that it be filmed in Technicolor, but that type of film was either no longer being made or being processed. Instead, the director came up with the plan to have the frames coloured by hand, thus you end up with the amazingly vibrant and slightly surreal coloration of the video. I realize that this video might still be a bit controversial, but it is one that has really stuck with me. I still love this so much, I cannot believe that this album was released in 1993. I am getting old!

4. Paul Newman

This photo of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward is just too good to be true. I want to recreate it with Jeff and Lola. I might have to work out for a while first to be able to hold Lola like that. This reminds me that another western movie you might want to check out is Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Seriously! They're good when you give them a chance!

5. Habit Forge

Okay, so I haven't actually tried Habit Forge yet, but it seems like a pretty good idea. Except that I already get a lot of e-mails and they are already a bit distracting. This site allows you to set a goal and holds you accountable to yourself for twenty-one days, just long enough to turn the change you seek into a lasting habit. I think I'm going to give it a shot. Just need to figure out what would be the most useful habit to forge. What good habits do you wish that you had?
