scarves

Happy long weekend, everyone! Just a quick post to let you know that there are a few new organic cotton scarves available in the shop this afternoon. This time I dyed lightweight organic cotton using a new technique and I'm happy with the subtle galaxy-like textures that I ended up with. Lots of lavender, light blue, and bits of turquoise with charcoal in this batch. Thanks for looking!

It's starting to feel like this time of year again. New scarves in the shop this weekend. Just a few for now, more to come. What colours are you into this spring?

update

Just popping in today to let you know that a shop update is in process. Silk scarves have been listed here and here. Cotton scarves will be there soon. I have a busy day of photographing and editing ahead of me. Thanks for all of your comments about the scarves I've posted so far here on the blog and on Instagram!

silk scarves

As I mentioned yesterday I had Friday off and was able to catch up on some projects that have been in the back on my mind for many, many weeks. Dyeing these silk scarves was one of those projects. Both are 29" x 29" silk with a rolled hem. I dyed them in a very concentrated dye to achieve this subtle lavender colour. I could see wearing one of these on a spring day as a light extra layer. I also have some new organic cotton scarves to share (I'm psyched!!!) but they're not quite ready yet. These silk dudes will be in the Camp + Quarry shop soon. Have a great Saturday!

sadie scarves have arrived

After getting such a great response to the post where I introduced the new hand dyed organic cotton Sadie scarves I've decided to list a few in the shop. These are limited edition for the holidays. Take a look at the ones I've listed in the shop and let me know what you think.

There will also be a big shop update sometime this weekend. Today is my day to photograph all of the pieces that I have ready for the last part of this busy holiday season. Check back here for more about some of the new pieces I have going on! And if you live in Vancouver be sure to stop by Got Craft? tomorrow any time from 10AM - 5PM. Remember! The first 45 people through the door get amazing swag bags! See you there, I hope!

UPDATE: Several of these scarves found new homes at Got Craft? but don't worry, there are more on the way soon!

sadie scarves

Our new apartment is pretty great, though not entirely unpacked or cleaned up yet. One of my favourite things about it is the new paint job. Alice recommended simply white by Benjamin Moore and our landlords were kind enough to paint everything in the colour we chose. I couldn't be happier with the bright, clean feeling this white lends to this place. It is so much easier to take photos in here than in any of our other Vancouver apartments.

Now on to the scarves! If you've been following this blog for a while, you know that Emily and I (and Camilla Tie Dye Ingr) have been hand dyeing everything from scarves to underwear since the summer. One of my favourite things to make are these large organic cotton scarves. They are big, nearly 2m long, and super lightweight. I use mine as a blanket to sit on in the park, a scarf, or as an adhoc sweater in the summer.

Wednesday morning I had a serious dye session in between drawing landscape plans for work and I got some awesome scarves made for Portobello West this weekend. As you can see, they still need to be ironed, but they're almost ready to go. I'm so glad I managed to pull of making these in time for the shows I'm going to be at. Any that I still have after PW and Got Craft? will be available online in the Sadie shop...except that last one...I might have to keep it for myself.

my favourite scarf

Lately my friend Emily (seen here, scaling hills during a Sadie photoshoot) have been mastering the art of tie dye. We've put in two full day sessions so far this summer and have great plans for more hand dyed projects after I get married. Our tie dye sessions are getting talked about, too. In fact, today I got an e-mail from my friend Jill who's coming for the wedding asking if we can tie dye while she's here visiting. Sounds like a plan to me, but I'll have to check with Emily, there's no way I could do this without her. We tend to encourage each other to experiment in just the right ways, even if we do sometimes end up with an ugly scarf or a tea towel with hand-dyed plaid (yes, that was as amazing as it sounds).

Spending the day on Emily's back porch, with her cute dog Hazel, pots of dye and piles of cotton fabric has been one of my favourite summer activities. I can't wait to experiment with some more autumn inspired colours and some new fabric dyeing techniques in September. What do you think of our sky-inspired palette? My giant pink and black organic cotton scarf is definitely my new favourite thing. I love the colours that we used this time around. The black wasn't as dark as I thought it would be, but the grey ended up being perfect with the other muted, pastel colours that we chose.

On another summery note my friend Carrah's rad summer trip is going to be the subject of tomorrow's two part, incredible, image-heavy post. Be sure to check it out, you won't want to miss this one!

Here's one of my favourite Animal Collective songs. I think it would be the perfect tie dye session soundtrack:
